How Tiny I Am (slice 4)

I find myself insignificant. Not because I don't matter or that I won't have an impact on the world, as much as my place in everything. The Earth is 4.54 billion years and the universe is 13.8 billion years. I have been alive for 14 years. This puts me at 8.6956522e-10 or 0.00000000086956522 of the universe’s life span. This doesn't include how small I am compared to the universe. Considering even after 13.8 billion years we can’t even measure the size of the universe (due to the speed of light), but if we were to use the size of the observable universe (45.7 billion light years or 268647440000000000000000 miles), I am nothing. These numbers are all so big and I feel so tiny I stop thinking about this pretty quick.

Vision Quest (book review 3)

Vision Quest is a book about a high school wrestler trying to loose weight to compete in a lower weight class. Along the way he talks about his past and events happening alongside his wrestling career.

I did not like this book very much. I felt like some of the topics were too mature without reason. This made the book feel slow and often went on tangents just to include these topics. Overall, I did not like this book and would not recommend it. Thank you for reading! Comment, subscribe, and drink more hot chocolate.

Carpool (slice 3)

During the soccer season, I am in a carpool with two other kids. I will call them Hyde and Stone for the purpose of this story. These two guys have become inseparable since starting soccer together. The first time we had the carpool, once Stone got in the car, Hyde immediately started talking to him about his backpack. Stone had a plush cow attached to his, to help him find his backpack among the rest of our team. Hyde asked where he could get one and what it was and what animal he should get. He later went and pointed it out to the whole team once we got to practice. Showing off his new friend's cow. While everyone else was trying to play soccer, they continued to talk about it and later decided to call each other "Cow Buddies" and moo to each other. On the way back they exchanged phone numbers and put lots of cow emojis on each other's contacts. A year later, they still can't bear to be more than 10 feet apart from each other. The Hounds of Baskerville (book 2)

The Hounds of Baskerville is a Sherlock Holmes mystery in which Sherlock Holmes attempts to make sense of a mysterious case involving a gigantic hound that has plagued  the Baskerville family for years.

I liked this book (especially after watching the Sherlock tv show). I found that understanding the plot and the 1800's speech made the book take longer than average to read, but in the end it was good to read. It was a great introduction book to a genre that I don't normally read, and well worth it. Thank you for reading! Comment, subscribe, and drink more hot chocolate.

D.I. (slice 2)

I can’t believe how far we have come. In just half a year I have constructed a 2”*2”8” structure made out of balsa wood and glue that can hold around 800 pounds. We also made a skit involving a 4’*8’ cardboard background and extensive costumes made from tin foil and hand-me-down clothes. We have managed to turn this performance into one of the best in the world and have now made it all the way to Tennessee after placing in the top three for both regionals and state. The majority of our time here has been spent trading pins and talking to people from other countries. I traded some of my pins for a Brazil jersey. Now we get to perform our skit and compete against other teams from everywhere including other states and countries. I have been doing D.I. since 3rd grade and love it. Every year we do better and now we have done the best. I am so happy. I have grown close to everyone on this team. I can’t wait. Nothing could be better.

Of Mice and Men

Of Mice and Men is a realistic fiction classic by John Steinbeck. This book follows two men (Lennie and George) as they try to scrape by. This is a great story that explores the ideas of poverty, identity, and the American dream. The writing style is great, and you connect with the characters on a personal level. The book is a quick read, and while there isn't much excitement, it is more than well replaced by good writing and intense emotions. This book is definitely one of the best books that I have ever read. This book would be a good read for 6th graders and up (due to the use of unusual grammar). This book would be amazing for any reader that is looking for a classic, well written book .

Mr. R. (slice 1)

Slice Number 1

Mr. R.

I've never even looked in this part of the library. I didn't even know it existed.  Mr. R. recommended it to me. I've barely talked to him, but it’s worth a try reading “Bone”. I find book one and run over to the librarian to check it out. I can tell by his face this is a good book. It seems that this happens every year. I go back to class and sit at my desk and start to read. The pages are thick and well worn. The binding is starting to crack. Immediately I’m enthralled. I've read comics before, but this one is different. The characters are fun, and there is more of a plot line than most. The rest of the day, I spent reading. I was hooked. I finished the whole nine book series in under a month and read more that year than all of my previous years combined. I read “Fourth World Omnibus”, “Kamandi” and the “Sub-Mariner”.
